The XR Technology Race Heats Up!

beritapekanbaru.com -The competition in the extended reality (XR) space is getting fiercer! South Korean tech giant Samsung has officially announced the release of its latest XR headset this year. Dubbed Project Moohan, this device is set to be a direct competitor to Apple Vision Pro, which launched earlier with a hefty price tag of $3,500 (~IDR 53 million).

In a statement to CNBC, a Samsung spokesperson confirmed that their new XR headset will hit the market this year. With this device, Samsung aims to deliver an immersive experience that seamlessly blends the digital and physical worlds in a more innovative way.

Project Moohan: Bridging the Digital and Physical Worlds

Samsung describes Project Moohan as an "extended reality" device designed to blur the line between the real and virtual worlds. While details remain scarce, leaks suggest that the headset will feature four cameras on the front and touch controls on the sides, allowing for more intuitive navigation.

A Powerful Collaboration with Qualcomm and Google

Samsung isn't tackling this ambitious project alone. The company is collaborating with Qualcomm and Google to develop a new operating system known as Android XR.

In December 2024, Samsung revealed that the headset will be equipped with Google Gemini, enabling AI-powered interactions. This feature is expected to provide a conversational user interface, making interactions more natural and intuitive.

"For me, XR technology is the combination of advanced visuals with intelligence that understands user intent. Without AI, it would be an incomplete product," said Patrick Chomet, Executive Vice President of Samsung's mobile division.

The Future of XR: Smart Glasses and AI Integration

Beyond its XR headset, Samsung has also hinted at plans to develop AR (Augmented Reality) smart glasses in the future. These glasses are expected to offer a lighter and more flexible experience compared to traditional XR headsets.

In 2023, CNBC reported that Samsung, Qualcomm, and Google were working together on mixed-reality smart glasses as part of the next evolution of XR technology. However, Samsung has yet to reveal an official launch timeline for these devices.

"I envision a world where XR devices are seamlessly integrated into everyday life—whether at home, in the car, or at work. This technology will help users accomplish tasks more efficiently," Chomet added.

The XR Battle Intensifies: Apple, Meta, and Samsung Compete for Dominance!

Samsung's entry into the XR market marks a new chapter in the competition for immersive technology. Apple Vision Pro, initially touted as a game-changer in XR, has struggled due to its high price tag and limited functionality.

Meanwhile, companies like Meta, Snap, and XReal are also developing their own XR devices, signaling that extended reality is increasingly being recognized as the future of computing. With its potential to revolutionize how we interact with digital environments, XR technology is on the rise.

With the launch of Project Moohan, will Samsung be able to challenge Apple's dominance in the XR space? Only time will tell—but one thing is certain: the battle for the future of XR has just begun!
